This morning we got up early and Carson and Kelly made us Swedish pancakes for breakfast. The breakfast was awesome and I will need to get the recipe to share with everyone. We left Pleasant Grove, Utah at 8:30 am we stopped at Bridal Veil Falls in the Provo canyon along hwy 189 it is a 607 foot waterfall with a beautiful yet tragic story so here is the legend.
Many moons ago, an Indian named Norita and a brave from a rival tribe, named Grey Eagle met and fell in love. They planned to meet near a streamlet high on the mountainside and elope to a land far away from both their tribes. On that fateful night, instead of her lover, Norita was confronted by braves from her own tribe. Fearing her lover had been destroyed she leaped from the high ledges. Mother Nature was touched by her wild beauty, and she caught up Norita's streaming tresses and made from them a Bridal Veil of falling water. From her flowing gown an alter was formed on the face of the mountain. Then her spirit was sent out as a mist, causing a green carpet to spread over the mountainside. The intruders fled while her saddened lover stood and gazed down at the strange yet beautiful transformation. His grief was more than he could bear, so out of compassion for his sorrow, Mother Nature molded his massive frames into the mountain and stretched his mighty shoulders high into the heavens like silent sentinels to guard over his loved one. His cries of anguish were softened into love calls to whisper forever.
After leaving Bridal Vail Falls we drove up through Park City Utah and into Wyoming. Once in Wyoming the scenery rapidly changed and became almost desert like again. We traveled on Route 80 and stopped at a roadside stop called Little America where we had 75 cent ice cream cones. It was a nice break. From there we traveled further down the road until we stopped at Bitter Creek Rest Area and had PBJ’s for lunch. We thought we would stop at Rawlins, Wy for the night but decided we were good to travel further up the road toward Casper if we could get reservations. We call the KOA in Bar Nunn, WY just north of Casper and were able to get a tent site for the night. So we headed north toward Casper. We stopped stopped at Independence Rock rest area
and were treated to free coffee and lemonade by a Christian Motorcycle group that was talking to travelers headed to Sturgis. They provided us with additional maps and great advice. Before we left they said a prayer with us to Bless us with good travel for the rest of our journey. They also gave a guardian angel pendant and a good luck pin. From there we headed to the KOA along te way we saw A LOT of Antelope grazing. We finally got to the campground and checked in. We enjoyed the campground it was clean and the bathrooms were nice. There were some bugs at niight but we had the bug spray along for a reason. We set up our tent and walked to a nearby restaurant/bar called “Chatters”and had a mushroom swiss burger. We got to talking to a few locals at the bar and they had A LOT of advice on what we should see and where we should go. (I mean A LOT of advice) We finished our dinner and are back at the campsite where we are doing our laundry and showering.
Tomorrow we will head to Gillette, WY where we will meet up with the group willl be traveling with the rest of our trip.
