On the Road to Sturgis - Day 4 Kansas

Today we left St. Roberts at 7:30 am we road on Route 44 to Route 7 to Route 5 to Route 54. This was a scenic route we traveled past the Lake of the Ozarks which was where we had hoped to camp the night before. We traveled through many many small towns and finally crossed over into Kansas. We enjoyed our ride and the weather was much more bearable today. The highest temperature today was 88 degrees. We watched the weather channel before we left the hotel this morning and were really worried about hitting a huge storm that was coming across Kansas. We stopped for a picnic lunch at the City Park in the small town of Bronson, KY.

We hit a rain storm just before we came into Topeka, KS and stopped along side Route 54 to put our rain gear on. We rode only 13 miles and the rain was over. No more rain the rest of the day we decided that we would ride to Pratt, KS fuel up and look for a campground for the night. We pulled into a gas station to fuel up and asked the guy next to us about a campground, he did not know of any nearby. Then a guy fueling up his Harley asked us how our ride was. I asked him about a place to tent camp, and he said I live in town you can put your tent up in my yard and shower at my house if you want. So we ended up taking him up on the offer and spent the evening with Robert Urban. Robert is a Sturgis Veteran and is leaving for Sturgis on Thursday. He shared his experiences with us as well as some great videos. We went out to dinner in Pratt at a Mexican Restaurant called Playa Azul. The food was good. The town of Pratt pretty much shuts down on Sundays and there are not many restaurants open. After dinner Robert took us on a tour of the area, showing Jeff some circle irrigation systems, a HUGE feed lot and grain elevators. Total miles today 415.

Once we got back to Robert’s house we set up our tent and then we spent the evening talking and watching videos. Tomorrow we will leave for the big day at Greensburg, KS
